YSRCP MLA says no development because of welfare schemes

Update: 2021-09-20 12:05 GMT
Critics have all along been saying that the allocations for implementing the election promises and the slew of welfare schemes is actually hitting the state's financial position and that the developmental programme have taken a serious hit.  Now a ruling party MLA too has said the same thing. He said that due to the welfare schemes, the government is left with no money for the developmental projects like building of bridges and laying of roads.

The other day, Nellore rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy visited the residence of the party worker as part of the Nenu Naa Karyakartha programme. On knowing about the visit, several party workers met him. Some party workers wanted the pending drainage work and an approach road to the mini-bypass be completed at the earliest. The MLA gave them a patient hearing and told them that it was unlikely that any developmental project would be taken up as the government does not have money. " Every rupee is spent on the slew of welfare schemes," he said.

He said that he and some other MLAs took up this issue with the chief minister and that the CM told them that he would allocate amounts for the developmental works. He told the party workers that he would ensure that the drainage and link road works are taken up soon after the funds were released.  The MLA's frank admission won him praise but it did raise serious questions about the imbalance between the welfare  and the developmental works.

Sources say that Kotamreddy's frank admission could land him in trouble. But, some say that he has actually spoken about a burning issue. Sources say that YS Jagan will focus on the development after completing two-and-a-half years of his term. But in the process, if he ignores welfare schemes, he is likely to lose all the goodwill he has earned.
