Liquor issue boomerangs on YSRCP, Pegasus issue blows up in TDP's face

Update: 2022-03-25 06:18 GMT
Have both the ruling YSRCP and the opposition TDP overplayed their hands? Have both made errors of judgement in strategy and tactic to outwit one another? Are both damaging themselves instead of damaging the rival? These questions are cropping up when one observes the way the two issues-the Pegassus issue and the cheap liquor issue-are being handled.

The TDP unnecessarily raised the issue of Pegasus. Party general secretary Nara Lokesh raised the issue and alleged that the YSRCP was using the software to snoop into the activities of the TDP. But, the revelation by West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee that Chandrababu Naidu had purchased the software to snoop on his rival has taken the wind off the sails of the TDP.

Now the Telugu Desam Party is on the defensive. It is proving too costly for the Telugu Desam Party . Now the party is doing everything it can to extricate out of the issue. The party is now on the defensive in the wake of Mamta Banerjee's revelations. Lokesh Babu is no longer talking about the Pegasus spyware issue now.

The YSRCP too tried to deflect the criticism of the cheap liquor deaths in Jangareddygudem of West Godavari. The party tried to portray these deaths as natural deaths. But the kin of the victim have told the media that the deaths were due to the cheap liquor. The more the YSRCP is trying to deflect it, the more problematic the issue is becoming for the YSRCP. Jagan’s statements too have complicated the issue. Now YSRCP is trying to extricate itself from the mess it has created. Thus both the parties are finding themselves facing the heat on issues that they thought would benefit them.
