Afghanistan Series Gives Ample Time For Rohit-Virat!
The much-awaited World Cup tournament is done and dusted and everyone moved to the World Cup
The much-awaited World Cup tournament is done and dusted and everyone moved to the World Cup. The short-format World Cup is just a few months away from now. The USA and West Indies are hosting the tournament. New teams were also given a chance in the league.
Ahead of the World Cup, BCCI made a good call by taking Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli into the short format. The two senior players were selected for the T20 series against Afghanistan which will be played this month.
It's been some time since the two players played the T20 format. After the 2022 World Cup where India lost in the semi-finals, the Rohit-Virat combination was not seen in the T20 format.
Selecting the duo for the Afghanistan series can be seen as preparation for the T20 World. As th premiere players did not play the format for a long time, the Afghanistan series might serve the purpose of the platform to get used to the T20s.
The chances of Hardik Pandya and Surya Kumar Yadav playing in the World Cup are very thin due to injuries. In their absence, the team management cannot go with the young players for such a big tournament. It's not that there are no players. We have Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh.
But the impact and weightage that comes with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is different from others. The two have been the big names for the team with the highest and second highest runs for the team respectively.
So they would get some ample time to get used to the T20s. Fans are loving what the BCCI did in the selection. India ended its run in the previous World Cup in the semis. As this would be the last World Cup for the players we have to see whether they would end the career on a high note or not.
