Andhra Pradesh is possibly the only state, which is having to fight extremely hard to lock in a single capital city. While the incumbent government is heavily backing Amaravati and even secured legislative support, opposition chief Jagan is coming up with MAVIGUN.

When Jagan initially termed MAVIGUN, saying the region between Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, and Tenali is to be the capital everyone thought it was a sarcastic dig. The word MAVIGUN sounded very funny in that sense and there were several memes on this.

But it turns out to be that Jagan is extremely serious about this proposal and the series of posters and imagery at his Tadepalli residence overwhelmingly resemble this prospect. The posters with the quotes “Ravali Jagan, Kavali MAVIGUN” might be regarded as YCP’s official stance on the capital region.

Things are shaping up in such a way that Andhra Pradesh politics during the 2029 electoral campaign could be revolving around the capital project. While the ruling NDA would come with Amaravati on the foreground, opposition YCP is evidently coming with MAVIGUN.

In case the incumbent government and secure significant development at Amaravati and cement its position as the permanent capital with solid infrastructure, then the public will overwhelmingly back them. But if as much integrity is not shown in the development, Jagan might have a chance to use this to power MAVIGUN.

But the big point of difference is that Jagan who ruled AP for five years put very little effort into development of a solid capital. The constant lingering from Amaravati to Vizag was bluntly rejected by the public. So it has to be seen if his new proposal of MAVIGUN will be perceived any better by the voting public in 2029.
