No Reservation, Old List: AP Local Election Is Happening!

Andhra Pradesh is preparing for the local body election starting very soon, and the stage is being prepared for the same. Judicial clearance for the procedure has been completed with the Supreme Court issuing the order a few minutes back.
The point to be noted here is that the earlier order issued by the Andhra Pradesh High Court regarding the BC reservation percentage has been upheld by the Supreme Court.
The High Court had earlier pointed out that the BC of 34% that was proposed by the government must not be implemented as the overall reservation must not go beyond 50%. This was categorically confirmed by the Supreme Court as well.
The government hoped for a positive result from the Supreme Court regarding the BC reservation, but that did not happen as this petition was dismissed.
But regarding the schedule, it has been confirmed that the local body election can proceed with the old voters list, and there is no need to wait for the SIR procedure to be completed.
The election notification is likely to be released this month itself, and the actual local body election could be held any time next month based on the scheduling that is prepared. It must be kept in mind that the ruling NDA government is the clear favourite to sweep the election this year.
The local body elections are almost always in favour of the government that is in power and the same is expected to be the case this time as well in Andhra Pradesh. But that does not take away, the fact that Jagan had made it very clear that the YCP leadership must put up their best efforts in the local polls.
