iPhone Users Alert: Here’s a New Payment Option

Apple Pay has finally entered the Indian market after a wait of around 12 years. Apple has launched its contactless payment service in India, giving users another way to make digital payments through Apple devices.

India already has several digital payment options that people use regularly. From UPI apps to banking apps and other payment services, users have many choices for making payments. Now, Apple is adding another option with Apple Pay. This is especially notable at a time when digital payment rules and charges are frequently being discussed by users and businesses.

For the initial launch, Apple has partnered with Axis Bank. At present, customers can add eligible Visa and Mastercard credit cards issued by Axis Bank to Apple Pay. The service is available on supported iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch models. Apple has also said that Mac support will be introduced in India soon.

How Does Apple Pay Work?

Apple Pay uses NFC technology for contactless payments. Users can bring their Apple device close to an NFC-enabled point-of-sale machine to make a payment. The process is designed to make card payments easier without carrying a physical card.

Apple says users do not need to enter a PIN or OTP at checkout for these tap-to-pay transactions. The payment can be completed by simply tapping the device on a compatible payment terminal.

The company says actual card numbers are not stored on the Apple device or Apple's servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is used for payments. This number is encrypted and stored in the device's Secure Element.

Apple also says it does not share the actual card number with merchants and does not retain transaction information.

How to Add a Card?

Eligible Axis Bank customers can add their Visa or Mastercard credit cards through the latest Axis Bank app. Users can also open Apple Wallet, select the plus option and follow the instructions to add their card.
