The Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy took a key decision on the assigned lands. An ordinance was granted to change the status quo of assigned lands. The Act was amended to meet the requirements so that the changes can be made.
Assigned lands are lands that are given to poor people or beneficiaries. In some cases, the lands are given free of cost, while it is given for nominal costs. The thing with the assigned lands is that they cannot be sold or given to others as a gift deed as well.
However, the AP government changed that and said that the assigned lands can be sold after 20 years. With the state Governor giving his nod, the ordinance was issued in his name. The ordinance was given by amending the Andhra Pradesh Assigned Lands (Prohibition of Transfers) Act, 1977.
Usually, beneficiaries can only use the lands and their heirs can also just use the land and they cannot sell or transfer it to others. Buying certain assigned lands is also an offense. We have seen many times how busying such lands attracted cases against the buyers.
With the new ordinance, there will be no issues whatsoever. Compared to the buyers, the ordinance is said to be beneficial for the beneficiaries. They can sell the land after 20 years. Having brought the ordinance a few suggestions were also made.
If the concerned assigned lands are next to the non-agricultural land and the price is high, then the buyers have to pay the difference amount. Many say that this would be beneficial for the landholders. The ordinance total rights on assigned lands in the state after completion of 20 years.
