Our neighbouring nation Bangladesh has been witnessing tense scenes for some time. The ongoing protests against the Reservation pushed the country into a great crisis. The country is on fire with the violent protests from the rioters. The situation had slipped out of the hands and the Prime Minister had to step down.
The reservation row in Bangladesh is turning chaotic. Seeing the situation get out of hand, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to step down. It is said that the PM left the country and the Military Rule is likely to come into effect in the country due to the situation.
To understand the issue there is a provision of a 30 percent quota for the families of the freedom fighters who fought in the 1971 Liberation War. This led to a big protest earlier. The Dhaka Court gave orders to restore the reservation. Later the Supreme Court said that the reservations should be restricted by 5 percent.
This did not go well with the students and others who hit the roads to protest. So far 300 people have died in the ongoing protests. The Bangladesh government had deployed the Army at the majority of places as a safety measure. However, this did not help in addressing the situation.
Due to Military suggestions, the PM reportedly stepped down and left the country in a chopper. In her absence, the Military rule might come into effect to bring the situation under control.
On the other hand, the Border Security Force issued a high alert at the border as quoted by the ANI. In the wake of the law and order situation in Bangladesh, the alert was given along the border. It is said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is closely monitoring the situation.
