Rs 25K Fees To Park Your Car, What’s Happening?

The Karnataka government has been very proactive when it comes to public policy making, but they appear to have taken a very odd decision. This is regarding the car parking facility that could be casting residence more than ₹25,000 per year.

This is the latest decision taken by the authorities in Bengaluru city, and it has already invited a lot of public backlash at the fundamental level.

Bengaluru residents may soon have to pay up to ₹25,000 a year to park vehicles on public roads outside their homes under the draft GBA Rules, 2026.

The proposed annual fee is ₹15,000 for hatchbacks, ₹20,000 for sedans and ₹25,000 for SUVs which has invited a lot of public negativity already.

Residents would need a valid residential parking permit, while parking would be allowed only on designated roads and subject to minimum road and pedestrian space requirements. The Karnataka government has invited objections and suggestions on the draft rules.

It is extremely shocking to see the government impose such fees structure for public parking as ₹25,000 per year is a pretty significant expense for a middle class family.

Considering the kind of public backlash that has come for this program in the first place, we have to see where this would end up in the days to follow. Whether the government will go ahead with this or fear, the backlash and take a step back will be a question that will be answered in future.
