The Padmanabhaswamy Temple in God’s own country Kerala is one such temple. The temple is in the news as a foreigner claimed that she was denied entry. She donned traditional attire and even had a big bindi.
In a video she shot she recalled what had happened at the temple. The foreigner said that she was denied entry into the temple as only Indians were allowed. She said that despite her fiance saying that they were engaged and she would become Indian soon the officials did not listen.
The foreigner said that when they went to the office they were told that only Hindus are allowed into the temple. She almost had tears while explaining what had happened. Her story became viral on social media with people giving their opinions on this.
Congress leader Karti Chidambaram also reacted to this and said that one cannot be stopped from visiting a place of worship."Why should anyone be barred from a place of worship they want to visit?" he said on social media.
The issue is getting mixed opinions. A section of people say that the foreigner would have been allowed as she wants to visit the temple with her fiance. However, the section says that certain rules need to be followed and she was denied permission as she could not produce the declaration.
There are a few temples where non-Hindus are not allowed and if they have to enter they should give a declaration and then only they are allowed. Recently Amala Paul was denied entry into a temple as she comes from a different faith. Veteran singer Yesudas was allowed to enter the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple only after he submitted the affidavit.
