Bill On Reducing Marriage Age For Girls Triggers Protests!

A sensational bill tabled in the House is raising many protests as it talks about reducing the marriage age of girls. In the majority of the countries in the world, the minimum age of marriage is 18. We can say that the global average is 18. However the bill talks about reducing the age to 9 which is not acceptable at all.

As per the media reports a sensational bill was proposed in the Parliament in Iraq. The bill seeks to reduce the age of marriage for girls to nine and 15 for boys. A few organisations have come out to protest the decision.

As of now, 18 is the minimum age of marriage. But the new bill seeks to reduce the age by half the years which is very shocking. There is no need to bring such a bill to reduce the marriage age.

There are a few concerns about child marriages in the world. Despite restrictions, we get to hear about child marriages. When the legal age is reduced we can imagine the destruction it could do. This will open the doors for the food of child marriages which would trigger a big disaster.

Activists and organisations oppose child marriages as girls would face a lot of issues physically and mentally. Early pregnancy would impact the health of the girls as their bodies cannot face the aftereffects. With the bill seeking the reduction of the marriage age a few activists are opposing this asking what is the need.

Iraq is already witnessing child marriages. As per the data of UNICEF, around 28 percent of girls get married at an early age. We have to see whether the administration would change its decision or not.
