The opposition parties are coming up with reasons to blame the BJP for picking Ahmedabad pitch over others.
Indian Cricket fans had a tough day on Sunday as the Men In Blue lost the finals to Australia. The team which remained unbeaten throughout the tournament recorded one defeat that too in the finals. With this India’s drought to lift the ICC trophy continued further.
Even days after the defeat, the World Cup continues to be in the headlines as the tournament took a political turn. The opposition parties are coming up with reasons to blame the BJP for picking Ahmedabad pitch over others. A war of words has been happening for some days.
Now the issue took a big turn with a BJP Chief Minister blaming Indira Gandhi's birthday for the loss. Having said that, the CM urged the BCCI to not hold matches on birthdays of Gandhi family members.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma came up with a reason and said that as Sunday was the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi India lost the match and requested BCCI to not plan matches on birthdays of any Gandhi family member.
The firebrand leader said that India did not lose a single match in the world cup and in the finals the team lost as it was the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi.
“We had been winning in all the games and lost the finals. I enquired about why we lost the match, and I found that the World Cup final was played on the birthday of Indira Gandhi. We played the World Cup finals on Indira Gandhi's birthday, and the country failed,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister's sharp criticism came after a few opposition party leaders blamed the BJP. Without taking any names Rahul Gandhi said that bad omen had led to India’s defeat. Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh said that had the final been played at Lucknow instead of Ahmedabad the team would have won.
