BRS MP Introduces Bill On SC Bench In Parliament!
MP introduced the private bill in the house which seeks to set up a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MP Ranjith Reddy introduced a private member's bill in the Lok Sabha which seeks to set up a supreme Court bench in Hyderabad. Saying that the Supreme Court bench should have at least five judges, the ruling party MP said that a few states and union territories should come under the bench.
As per the media reports, the MP introduced the private bill in the house which seeks to set up a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court in Hyderabad and states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Odisha, Chhattisgarh along with the Union Territories of Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Dadra Nagar Haveli, and Andaman Nicobar Islands should be brought under the bench.
The MP reportedly said that there is flexibility of establishing the Supreme Court in the country and Hyderabad is among the big cities and has the requirements to have the Supreme Court bench.
Giving the reasons for this, the MP reportedly said that having a Supreme Court Bench in Hyderabad will help people in far-off places to go to the court instead of traveling all the way to Delhi for the cases.
It has to be mentioned here that the demand for having a Supreme Court bench in Hyderabad is not new. The ruling party MP had asked the same in the Parliament a couple of years back.
Back in 2021, BRS Lok Sabha member Ranjith Reddy asked the then Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju regarding the proposal to have a Supreme Court bench in Hyderabad. The Minister said that the Supreme Court shall sit in Delhi or another place as per the Article 130 of the Constitution of India.
