The veteran players from India made fans proud by winning the World Championship of Legends 2024. In the finals, the Indian team defeated arch-rivals Pakistan. After the win, the players burst into celebration. However, the way they celebrated the victory took an unexpected turn and they faced a case.
World Cup-winning players Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh Raina were accused of making fun of disabled people. In the video the players grooved to the famous Tauba Tauba song and as part of that they limped and held their back.
However, their actions attracted objections from a few sections, and a complaint was filed against them. The league lasted for 15 days. Due to this, the players said that they were strained and limped. However, the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) Executive Director did not like it and moved the Police.
In the complaint, the complainant observed that people with disabilities were mocked in the video. The complaint included Vice President and Managing Director of Meta India Sandhya Devanathan too.
Besides this, the complaint also said that the video which was now removed from Instagram had violated Article 21 of the Constitution which promises a life with dignity, and also violates Section 92 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
They raised objections over the video being allowed on Instagram not following the guidelines. With this Meta India;’s director is also included in the complaint the reports say.
Social media has become a big platform and everything we post would be closely observed. Following the same a complaint was filed against them. The players highlighted their strain of playing the 15-day league and celebrated the win. But a few objections were raised and a complaint was filed.
