Not just Vinesh Phogat but the whole country is looking at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for the verdict. If everything had gone well the Court might have given the verdict before the Olympics were concluded. But the verdict was delayed due to postponement thrice not once.
Vinesh Phogat carried a lot of expectations to win Gold for the country in Wrestling. True to the expectations she reached the Finals. When everyone was hoping to see her winning the Gold glory she was disqualified due to being overweight.
She is just 100 grams more weight than the limit and she was disqualified. She had put in her best efforts to reduce the weight and even went for a haircut. But the efforts went in vain as she was disqualified.
Vinesh Phohat then knocked on the doors of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to challenge the disqualification. She sought directives to get the Silver medal as she was not allowed to play in the finals.
CAS earlier said that it would take a call on this before the Olympics ends. However, the verdict was delayed a few times and the CAS said the verdict would be out on the 16th of August. All eyes are on the date to see what would be the verdict.
Amid this, the Wrestling Federation of India said it is dissatisfied over the delay and said that it is hopeful of a positive verdict. A few reports said that Wrestling Federation of India Vice-President Jai Prakash Chaudhary said they are hoping for a favorable decision from the CAS.
Talking about the weight row the Vice-President said that taking care of the Wrestler’s weight is the staff duty and they should have been careful. The wrestler’s weight increasing before the final is the staff’s mistake and they should have been careful.
