Special status for Bihar is not a new demand and it has been an old one. The old demand saw a big momentum with the Bihar government talking about this. Recently it was reported that Nitish Kumar’s party decided to fight for the special status for the state and it might fight for the special package.

Now the Centre made its stand clear on the issue and said that it is not possible to grant the status. JD(U) MP from Jhanjharpur Rampreet Mandal raised the issue in the house and asked for special status to states like Bihar and others for development.

But the Centre said it is not possible to grant the status. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in response said there is no possibility. Listing out the criteria for this the Minister said Bihar cannot get the status. It can be seen as a big blow to Nitish Kumar who is in the NDA alliance.

A big debate has been going on about what will be the case of Andhra Pradesh now. When Nitish Kumar raised the special status issue many felt that AP would also get the benefit. If Bihar is given then AP should also fight for this and get the status as the state is dealing with a few issues.

A few leaders urged TDP and Chandrababu Naidu to fight for this. But the Centre shocked everyone by saying that Bihar cannot get the special status. As this is the case with Bihar it appears that Andhra Pradesh should also forget the status now.

It has to be mentioned here that earlier special status was granted to AP due to bifurcation. But that did not happen as the Central government changed. The current government many times said that it is not possible to grant the status.
