The Volunteer system continues to be a sensation in Andhra Pradesh even after the elections and the new government taking charge. During the campaign, the YCP said that the TDP would remove the Volunteer system. Countering this Chandrababu Naidu said Volunteers' salaries would be increased.

Keeping this aside, there is no clarity on what the government wants to do with the Volunteers. On one side the Volunteers who earlier resigned are requesting the government to take them back into jobs. On the other hand, the government is yet to take a call on Volunteers.

Volunteers handed over the pension benefits to the beneficiaries in the last government. However, the current government came up with a new idea and directed the Village/Ward Secretariat staff to hand over the pensions.

Talking about pensions Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said that the previous government said it appointed volunteers to hand over the pensions. They said Secretariat staff should be used to hand over the benefits but the government ignored this and the election commission also said no to Volunteers giving the pension.

Adding further he said that 30 people died as they were made to come to take the pensions in hot summer. Now we are showing how the Secretariat staff can be used and the pensions will be distributed in just one day, he said.

The Chief Minister said that there are around 1,20,000 staff in the Secretariat and if one employee gives a pension to 50 people then the beneficiaries can get the benefits. If there is a need for additional staff Anganwadi and ASHA workers would be used, he said. If needed the Volunteers would be used, he added.
