All eyes are on the Supreme Court now as the Apex Court is slated to pronounce its verdict on the much-talked-about Skill Development Case. The Apex Court will give the verdict on the quash petition the Telugu Desam Party chief filed. It is the judgment day for the former Chief Minister.
It is known that Chandrababu Naidu was arrested and sent to jail in connection with the Skill Development Case. He has been focusing on getting the petition quashed and filed quash petition to quash the FIR that was filed against him in the scam.
Earlier he moved the High Court for the directives. However, the High Court did not give him the required relief. With this, he knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court to challenge the verdict. The verdict in the case was reserved and now the Court will announce the verdict.
The Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act is gaining importance in the case. While Chandrababu Naidu has been saying that his arrest doesn't have any ground as permission from the Governor was not sought. The section was cited many times by Chandrababu Naidu’s lawyers.
On the other hand, the CID has been placing arguments that Section 17 A is not valid in the case. If the Court thinks the section is not applicable then the FIr would be quashed which can be seen as a big relief for the former Chief Minister.
The elections are just a few months away and getting rid of the case can give the party a big josh. With no issues to worry about, the party can solely focus on the elections and prepare for the win.
The CID filed the Skill Development case which talks about the alleged transfer of funds that were supposed to spend on skill development. The government and Siemens India were supposed to invest 10 percent and 90 percent respectively. For this, the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation was also constituted.
