It is already known that vast majority of the Indian population has been flying abroad for further studies, and with this comes the natural risk of exploitation and also racist attacks. One such incident has happened with a young Indian student in the Australian continent, and here is a look into the story.

Charanpreet Singh, a 23-year-old Indian student in Australia, was brutally attacked in a racist assault on July 19 in Adelaide. He and his wife were out near Kintore Avenue to see a light display when five men approached them. Without warning, they shouted, “F— off, Indian,” and started beating him. They punched him with fists, metal knuckles, or sharp objects and kicked him until he was unconscious.

Charanpreet suffered serious injuries, including facial fractures and brain trauma. He was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment. The incident was reported to the police, who later arrested a 20-year-old man from Enfield. He was charged with assault causing harm. Police are still searching for the other attackers and are reviewing CCTV footage.

The Indian community in Adelaide is angry and worried after this incident. Many fear for the safety of international students. Charanpreet said, “You can change anything in your body, but not your skin colour.”

South Australia’s Premier Peter Malinauskas strongly condemned the attack, calling it unacceptable and against the state’s values. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are asking witnesses to come forward to help catch the remaining suspects.
