Brutal Reality Check For Ruling Party: Opposition Sweeps MLC Polls!
Generally, any election that is held during the existing tenure of a ruling party will be in favour of the government.
Generally, any election that is held during the existing tenure of a ruling party will be in favour of the government. It can be assembly by election or the MLC election, or even the local body election for that matter.
But in the case of Karnataka, something extremely unexpected is happening as the ruling Congress government is nowhere in the scene.
The Congress party in Karnataka has been delivered a brutal shock as they ended up losing all four of the MLC seats that went into election recently. This is one of the most humiliating results against the Congress party in the Karnataka state.
In Karnataka, where Congress is in power, the BJP-JDS alliance swept all four seats. The most significant outcome came in the Bengaluru Teachers’ constituency as JDS’s A.P. Ranganath defeated sitting Congress MLC Puttanna by 908 votes (10,810 to 9,902).
The BJP won the remaining three seats while the Congress lost a seat in its own ruling state, in an election conducted using ballot papers.
This is going to be one of the most detrimental results against the Congress party in Karnataka state in recent years. This might not entirely be reflecting the public mood on the Congress government, which is primarily dependent on rural voting.
But the negativity at the ground level is very much evident, and the Congress party has just a couple of years to rectify what is happening.
At a time when the MLC election are almost always in the favour of the ruling government, the Congress has been delivered a brutal shock and coming back from here is going to be a pretty big challenge.
