New Year Effect: How Many Drunk Driving Cases In Hyderabad?

On the celebrity occasion of New Year last night, Hyderabad came to an absolute banger of a night out. The city witnessed a substantial high number of drunk driving cases on the occasion of New Year and let us have a look into the story behind the same.

To prevent road accidents and other untoward incidents, Cyberabad Police conducted an intensive special drive against drunk driving from the night of December 31, 2025, till the morning of January 1, 2026.

As part of this drive, 55 teams were deployed across Cyberabad, during which 928 persons were caught driving under the influence of alcohol and cases were booked against them.

The vehicle-wise breakup includes 695 two-wheelers, 31 three-wheelers, 199 four-wheelers, and 3 heavy vehicles. The driving licences of the offenders will be seized and forwarded to the concerned RTAs for suspension under Section 19 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

Among those booked, 419 persons recorded alcohol levels above 100 mg/100 ml of blood, 35 persons recorded above 300 mg/100 ml, and 5 persons recorded extremely high levels exceeding 500 mg/100 ml.

Most cases were reported from traffic police station limits of Miyapur, RC Puram, Raidurgam, Gachibowli, Kukatpally, Medchal, Narsingi, Rajendranagar, and KPHB.
