The volume of the Indian population and particularly the Telugu community, travelling to Dallas has been through the roof in the recent years. And now we have a shocking scam that is unfolding.

An Indian community member in Dallas has issued a safety warning after his elderly mother narrowly escaped a robbery attempt outside a Patel Brothers grocery store in Frisco.

The incident occurred while the man was shopping. He had asked his mother to wait in the car with his wife and baby. A woman followed his mother to the vehicle, initiated a conversation, and then attempted to snatch a gold chain from her neck. The man arrived at the right moment, causing the suspect to flee.

The suspect was seen leaving in a white SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer. The woman was described as older and appeared to be of Middle Eastern or Hispanic descent.

The post, shared by the Instagram account nris_adda, quickly gained traction within the Indian community, amassing over 1,900 shares. The original poster urged community members, particularly those visiting Indian grocery stores in the Dallas area, to remain vigilant and watch out for suspicious individuals targeting shoppers.

Gold chain snatching incidents targeting South Asian women have been reported across several US cities in recent years, with perpetrators often operating in pairs or small groups near Indian grocery stores and temples.

Community members are advised to stay alert in parking lots, avoid wearing expensive jewelry while shopping, and accompany elderly relatives to and from vehicles.
