The volume of the American population travelling to India for travel purposes is already low. And now we have shocking incidents happening, which could further keep the American population away from India due to the antisocial behaviour.

Incidentally, an American woman visiting India has alleged that she was s*xually harassed on the Delhi Metro, an incident that has sparked widespread discussion on women’s safety in public spaces.

According to her account, the incident occurred when a teenage boy asked for a photograph while travelling with his family. After she agreed, the boy allegedly put his arm around her shoulder and then touched her inappropriately. The woman said she immediately confronted him and pushed him away.

She further claimed that the boy’s family members defended his behaviour, stating that she had overreacted and attempting to justify his actions. The response, she said, added to her distress and left her shocked.

The incident came to light after an Indian origin academic based in the United States shared her experience on social media. The post quickly went viral, drawing strong reactions online. Several users condemned the alleged harassment and criticised the family’s response, while others called for greater awareness about consent and respectful conduct in public spaces.

The woman stated that the experience overshadowed her visit to India, during which she was frequently approached for selfies. She reportedly said the incident may influence her decision to return to the country in the future. As of now, there has been no official confirmation of a police complaint or response from authorities regarding the incident.
