The ban on sales of liquor and non-veg at the famous religious site is not new and we have been hearing about this of late. In places like Mathura and others, restrictions were imposed raising a wide range of objections. However, it was not a complete ban and there are restrictions in some areas.

But do you know there is a city where the sale of non-veg is illegal? The city is in India and this makes it the first city in the world to treat the sale of non-veg illegal. Not imposing restrictions on non-veg, but sale is seen as illegal.

As reported by the Republic, non-veg sale is illegal in Palitana city in Gujarat. It is said that the fight by the Jian community led to the big decision. The butcher houses were also closed in the city as per the information.

More than 200 Jain monks are said to have protested demanding the ban on non-veg sales. With this, the administration imposed a ban on sales and said that the sale was illegal. Palitana is very sacred for the Jain community as there are many temples there.

As the city also has a historic significance and importance the community protested against the sale of non-veg and the administration reportedly accepted this.

The Jian community is a peaceful community and the community won't even eat onions. The community often fights against the killing of animals for festivals. As an example of its commitment to this, the community members polled over Rs 1 cr and purchased 124 goats to save them from killing for Bakrid. The goats were rescued and provided all the facilities and they run a shelter house too.
