It is already known that the election commission had announced the schedule for the upcoming assembly elections in five different states across the country. And now let us have a look at the crucial dates associated with the same.

The Election Commission of Indi on Sunday announced the schedule for the 2026 Assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory.

The elections will take place in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry, with polling held between April 9 and April 29, while counting of votes will be conducted on May 4, 2026.

According to the Election Commission, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry will go to the polls in a single phase on April 9, 2026. These states will complete their voting process on the same day across all constituencies.

In Tamil Nadu, polling for the 234 member Legislative Assembly will be conducted in one phase on April 23, 2026. The state has several crore eligible voters and the election will decide the next government after the current assembly’s term ends in May.

West Bengal will have the most extended polling schedule among the states. Elections will be conducted in two phases to manage security and logistics. The first phase of polling will take place on April 23, 2026, followed by the second phase on April 29, 2026.

The counting of votes for all four states and the Union Territory of Puducherry will take place on May 4, 2026, and results are expected the same day.

These elections cover over 800 assembly constituencies and millions of voters across eastern, southern, and northeastern India. The polling schedule was announced as the current assembly terms in these states are set to expire between May and June 2026.
