Indian billionaire Gautham Adani, who is also one of the richest person in the world has finally managed to escape without any significant action from the United States authorities.
What began as a high-profile indictment in late 2024 has now been formally closed by the same system that initiated it. The Department of Justice itself had earlier indicated serious legal and jurisdictional challenges in pursuing the matter but they’ve closed it out now.
Incidentally, a US federal court has permanently dismissed criminal charges against Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani and former Adani Green CEO Vineet Jaain.
The case was initially filed in November 2024 and it involved allegations of a $250 million bribery scheme linked to solar power contracts in India.
Prosecutors had also accused the group of misleading investors while raising more than $3 billion through US markets. The Adani Group denied the allegations.
The US Justice Department later sought dismissal, citing jurisdictional and evidentiary challenges and other concerns. The lucky thing for Gautham Adani now is that he has managed to escape without any significant action from the United States authorities.
The charges have been dropped, and the case is going to be permanently closed by the United States Federal Court, which is going to be a significant piece of relief to Adani and also everyone else involved.
