For generations, getting a good job, buying a house, getting married and raising a family were considered the major milestones of adulthood. However, Gen Z is increasingly questioning these traditional expectations. Instead of following a fixed life plan, young people are choosing lifestyles that better suit their personal goals. This changing mindset is often described as 'Liquid Adulthood'.

Financial independence has become increasingly difficult for today's generation. Rising property prices, expensive rentals, job uncertainty and the growing cost of living are influencing major life decisions. Even those earning decent salaries often struggle to purchase a home, making rented accommodation or living with parents a practical alternative.

Career choices are changing too. Rather than spending their entire careers with one company, many Gen Z professionals look for better salaries, career growth and work-life balance. Freelancing, remote work and entrepreneurship are becoming attractive options.

Relationships and marriage are also evolving. Many young people prefer to delay marriage until they achieve financial stability or feel personally ready. Some choose independent living, while others explore relationships without traditional labels, commonly known as situationships.

Social media, dating apps and digital communities have further exposed young people to different lifestyles and perspectives. They increasingly believe that life does not have to follow a single predetermined path.

However, Liquid Adulthood does not mean avoiding responsibilities. According to the Deloitte 2026 survey figure cited in the original report, 55% of Gen Z respondents are delaying major decisions involving marriage, family and business because of financial pressures.

Ultimately, Gen Z is redefining what it means to be successful. A permanent job, home ownership and marriage are no longer the only measures of a settled life. Personal happiness, independence and the freedom to make individual choices matter just as much.
