Hyderabad Hijra Problem: Is Counselling Enough?

Hyderabad had been facing a major problem when it comes to the issues that are created by transgender individuals, and this has been the case for the last few years as well. They have been several public comments against the same.

However, the latest developments are suggesting that Hyderabad police have been called to action on this matter, and they have dived into action already.

Since 2021, there have been repeated allegations of people arriving at weddings, housewarmings, shop openings, restaurants, traffic junctions and trains and demanding money.

The cases involve people identified as transgender as well as people whom police alleged were impersonating transgender persons.

After having received a lot of complaints on this, Hyderabad Police have initiated action as they have started counselling the communal hits of the transgender community. Related counselling session was held in Hyderabad today upon the order from DGP CV Anand himself.

But this brings us to the question on whether counselling and verbal reprimands would be sufficient enough to correct the wrongdoings of the transgender community as more assertive action is needed for such matters.

The wider section of the Hyderabad public have been complaining against this and it is perhaps responsibility of the Police department to make sure that this does not repeat in the future.
