Hyderabad is among the fastest-growing cities in the Country. Across the sectors, the Capital city is seeing a big jump in growth and development. Besides the development, the traffic is also increasing. At crucial junctures, we are seeing huge traffic jams showing stars to the commuters.

Traffic menace has become a big issue as more and more vehicles are hitting the roads. To beat the traffic the Hyderabad Civic Body Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) came up with a big plan. Tunnel roads were proposed in the city for a stretch of 39 km on different routes.

At the routes where the traffic is very high, these proposed tunnel routes would come up. Five routes are said to have been proposed by the GHMC.

ITC Kohinoor is the main junction for three crucial routes besides the two other routes. ITC Kohinoor to Wipro Circle via Khajaguda and Nanakramguda, ITC Kohinoor to JNTU via Mindspace, and ITC Kohinoor to Banjara Hills Rd No. 10 via Jubilee Hills Rd No.45 are the three routes proposed with ITC Kohinoor as the Centre.

GVK1 Mall to Nanalnagar via Masab Tank and Nampally to Chandrayangutta IRR via Charminar and Falaknuma are the remaining two routes GHMC proposed.

It is said that tenders were also invited by the GHMC to prepare the Feasibility Studies (FS). Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) technology will be used to contrast the tunnels.

The five corridors are crucial junctures in the capital city and see vehicle movement on a big scale. These tunnels would ease the traffic and make it easy for commuters to have hassle-free travel on the roads.

Tunnel roads are increasing in the country rapidly and we have a highway tunnel as well. The Atal Tunnel is dubbed as the world's longest single-tube highway tunnel.
