The Indian government has been very conservative about the operations of Twitter in the country, and they have been several regulations in this regard. Now the Indian government has reportedly assured a statutory warning to the chief of Twitter Elon Musk.
The Indian government has issued a strong warning to Elon Musk owned X platform over the alleged misuse of its artificial intelligence chatbot Grok.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has raised serious concerns after reports emerged that Grok was being used to generate and circulate obscene and derogatory content, particularly targeting women without consent. Officials stated that such content violates Indian laws related to digital safety, dignity and privacy.
According to the government, this issue reflects a failure of platform level safeguards and raises questions about the responsibility of social media companies in regulating AI generated material.
The notice directed X to immediately remove all unlawful and vulgar content produced through Grok and to ensure that similar violations do not occur in the future. The ministry also asked the company to review its technical systems and moderation policies related to the AI tool.
The government has reportedly sought a detailed action taken report from X within a short deadline, outlining the corrective steps implemented to address the problem.
Officials warned that failure to comply with Indian IT laws could invite strict legal action. The move highlights India’s increasing focus on holding global technology companies accountable for AI misuse and ensuring that emerging technologies do not compromise user safety or social ethics.
