The number of fatal activities happening against the Indian community in Canada has been increasing by the week. And now, we have another one such shocking incident involving an Indian origin medical student in Canada.

A tragic incident has shaken the Indian student community in Canada after an Indian doctoral student was shot dead near the University of Toronto Scarborough campus.

The victim has been identified as Shivank Avasthi a 20 year old PhD student pursuing his studies in life sciences. He was found with a fatal gunshot injury near the Highland Creek Trail and Old Kingston Road area on December 23. Emergency services rushed to the location but he was declared dead at the scene.

Canadian police have confirmed that the case is being treated as a homicide. According to officials the police initially received a call about an unknown disturbance in the area.

When officers arrived they discovered the student lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. The suspects reportedly fled before police reached the spot and no arrests have been made so far. The motive behind the killing remains unclear and the investigation is ongoing.

The victim was described by friends and classmates as a bright student with a promising academic future. He was also actively involved in campus activities and was part of the university cheerleading team which paid an emotional tribute to him.

The Indian Consulate in Toronto expressed deep sorrow over the incident and stated that it is in touch with local authorities and the victim family to provide all possible assistance. The incident has raised fresh concerns about student safety in areas surrounding university campuses in Canada.
