Indian-Couple Forced Relative Into Labour, Gets Jail Term!

Usually, we see Indians facing attacks and other unwanted incidents in the United States. The trend is picking up of late. However, there are a few incidents in which Indians indulge in unlawful activities and face the heat of it. We have seen a few examples of that bringing shame to the nation.

Another disgusting incident came to light in which an Indian-American couple indulged in labor abuse. The couple harassed the victim who was brought on the pretext of helping him with a better life and education. A court slapped the couple with jail term and compensation of around Rs 1.87 crore to the victim.

Going into details, Kulbir Singh and Harmanpreet Singh are a couple living in the US. The couple brought Kulbir Singh’s cousin to America saying that they would help him with survival and education.

However, the couple allegedly mistreated him and did not even pay the money for the forced work he was made to do. He did not even get the required facilities. He was forced to live in a small place.

The victim was forced to follow their words as they took over his documents. The issue reached the Court. A jury heard the case and the trial lasted for a few weeks. Finding the couple guilty Kulbir Kaur was slapped with 7.25 years jail term and Harmanpreet Singh with 11.25 years. On the other hand, they were directed to pay compensation to the victim.
