A man named Satyen Naik, a 46-year-old owner of a motel in Newport City, North Carolina, was tragically shot and killed by a homeless intruder. The incident took place when police responded to a trespassing call at his motel.

Naik was found outside the motel with a gunshot wound when the police arrived. He was taken to the hospital but sadly didn't survive.

The police mentioned that the suspect, Troy Kellum, aged 59, had barricaded himself inside one of the rooms in the motel. Negotiations between law enforcement and Kellum went on for a while, attempting to peacefully resolve the situation.

Unfortunately, Kellum eventually shot himself with a handgun as the police unit entered the room, resulting in his death at the scene.

This tragic incident occurred at a family-owned business, deeply impacting Naik's family, who used to operate it together.

The Special Response Team (SRT) from Carteret County was involved in the operation, and there were temporary lockdowns in the area to ensure safety during the standoff.

The police investigation is ongoing, shedding light on this unfortunate event that took the life of Satyen Naik, leaving his family and the community in shock.
