Indian Studies Pursuing Studies In 108 Nations!

The count of Indian students who move abroad to pursue higher studies has been increasing rapidly. Not just the numbers, but the count of countries they move to is also on the rise. Usually, we think that students prefer America, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, China, Germany, European countries, and Asian countries. But the data tells us a different story as far as the students' preferences are concerned. Our students are going to 108 countries for higher studies.
An MP in Rajya Sabha asked whether the union government is gathering information of students who are moving abroad. In a written reply Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh said that the information as of 2024 says 13 lakh students-13,35,878 to be precise are studying in 108 countries.
The Minister said that the Union Government advises the students to enroll their names in the Indian embassies or the Global Rishta portal. He also said that welcome programs are held for the students who land abroad for the first time and they are informed about the issues they face in these countries. While 9/07 lakh students went abroad for higher studies by 2019, the number rose to 13,18,955 by 2023.
The highest number of students are studying in Canada this year with 4,27,000 pursuing studies followed by America(3,37,000), China(8,580), Ukraine(2510), Israel(900), Pakistan(14), and Greece(8). It is interesting that the students are pursuing studies across the countries.
