IPL is generally not short of entertainment and exuberant numbers. The same can be understood if we look at the latest statistic associated with Lucknow player Digvesh Rathi.
Digvesh was purchased by Lucknow for a base price of ₹30 lakh in this year’s mega auction. As it turned out, he is a pretty good spinner and hit readily drafted in the final team. He is doing pretty well in the spin department for Lucknow.
However, the issue for this young spinner who made his debut just a couple of weeks back is that he found it hard to control his temper in the game against Punjab. During this match, he did something against the IPL code of conduct as he gave an aggressive send off to the opening batsman of Punjab, after getting his wicket.
Incidentally, the revision group felt this gesture by the young spinner is against the code of conduct and imposed a hefty fine of Rs 50 lakh on him.
While the yearly salary for the youngster is just ₹30 lakh in the IPL, his thoughtless gesture in the game against Punjab ended up bringing him Rs 50 lakh fine. His entire IPL yearly salary is lesser than the fine he accumulated in a single game.
It has to be seen if the Lucknow management and franchise owners will stand by this young player and cover the fine, considering the fact that his financial situation might not support the same.
