The political class is abuzz with the rumours that old Rayalaseema warhorse and tenacious leader Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy is getting ready to the TDP bandwagon. Highly placed sources say that he was all set to meet Chandrababu Naidu, but the latter’s arrest in the skill development corporation case has halted the move.
However, his admission into the TDP, according to political pundits, is only a matter of time. Byreddy was MLA from Nandikotkur in 1994 and 1999. Later, he was defeated in the 2004 elections. He had again contested unsuccessfully from Panyam in the 2009 elections.
Since then, he began political flip-flops which had greatly hit his credibility. In 2018, he joined the Congress, but re-joined the TDP in 2019. Later, he joined the BJP and left it as fast has he joined. He has been raising the issues pertaining to Rayalaseema region since then.
However, there is a major hitch. His son Siddhartha Reddy is the SAAP chairperson in the YSRCP government, while his daughter Sabari Reddy is with the BJP. In fact, she is the Nandyal district president. What will happen to their future if he joins the TDP? Sources say that Sabari is likely to join her father, while Siddhartha will likely remain in the YSRCP.
Sources say that Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy might ask for the MP ticket from Nandyal. He is also believed to have asked for an MLA seat for one of his family members. Sources say that preliminary talks on this issue have been completed with the TDP top leaders. Byreddy wants a confirmation from Chandrababu himself on this.
