A wedding is a celebration of life as it brings two people together. In India, the marriage institution is respected massively. There is another aspect that makes Indian marriages special which is the magnanimity of the scale. We can see massive arrangements for weddings.

Marriage season helps the market mint gold. Every year the business numbers are increasing. Observers predicted that the wedding season might have minted Rs 4.25 trillion in 2023 which is massive. On average Rs 10.70 lakh crores are spent on marriages every year.

Looking at the money that is pushed into weddings many have the doubt of whether the expenditure is justified or not. The data says that around 60 percent of families spend more money than their annual income on weddings. With this, we can imagine the money that is spent.

Right from decoration to gold ornaments to gifts to vehicles a lot of things should be purchased which needs money. With time passing the costs are increasing and this is reflecting in the money that goes into weddings. Marriage is the fourth biggest industry in the country.

Looking at the origin of the marriage it goes back to the Vedic era and weddings were held in a big way to bring relatives and others together. However, this changed a bit after the independence due to the financial situation of the country.

With the income of the people increasing they also started spending on marriages. Trying to mimic celebrities in dresses and other celebrities is playing a role in increasing the money that goes into weddings.

Dowry is prohibited in India. But the practice is still followed and we are seeing cases related to the issue increasing. The money that is given as dowry is also taking the marriage expenditure up.
