Weeks after he resigned from the BJP and joined the Congress Party, former MP and Congress candidate from Chennur Gaddam Vivek had unwanted guests knocking his doors. Sleuths from the Income Tax department swooped down on his residences in both Chennur and Hyderabad’s Somajiguda. They also conducted raids on his companies.

The raids followed complaints by BRS candidate Balka Suman that huge amounts of unaccounted money were getting deposited in Vivek’s accounts. Suman complained that money from questionable sources was being deposited into the Visaka Industries and Vigilence Securities, both owned by Vivek. The officials already freezed the accounts of both the companies.

The raids began early on Tuesday morning and continued till late in the afternoon. At the time of filing this report, the raids were still continuing. The officials also freezed some Rs 8 crore from the accounts of both the companies owned by Vivek. Protesting against the arrest, Congress workers staged a dharna in front of Vivek’s residence in Chennur.

They alleged that Vivek was being harassed as he has left the BJP. They said that this was aimed at hitting his electoral prospects in the elections. Vivek was till recently in the BJP and held the key post of the election manifesto committee of the party. He resigned recently and became the Congress Party’s candidate from Chennur assembly constituency.
