It Was a Selfish Approach: Ex-Pak Player On Virat’s Ton!
The ex-Pak player said that Virat Kohli took a single in the 49th over for his century rather than going for big shots.
India is continuing its dominance in the ongoing World Cup as it is the only unbeaten side in the tournament so far. No matter which team it is India is crushing the opponents and it is at the top position in the table with sixteen points to its name. India will face the Netherlands team and there are high chances for India to finish the league matches without a single loss.
Former skipper Virat Kohli has been instrumental in the wins and he has been scoring valuable runs for the team. In the match against South Africa, Virat scored a century and helped his team score 326/5 in 50 overs. In response, India humbled the opponent to meer 83 runs.
With the century Virat Kohli equaled the record held by Sachin Tendulkar with 49 tons in the ODI format. Wishes poured in for the great player for adding another feather to his glorious cap.
However, Virat Kohli is also facing some criticism as some people think that he played for his milestone. Former Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez joined the row and made some crucial comments. He said that Virat had a selfish approach for the century which is not good.
The ex-Pak player said that Virat Kohli took a single in the 49th over for his century rather than going for big shots. Talking about Rohit Sharma, he said that Virat would have gone for big shots like Rohit did.
“I saw sense of selfishness in Virat Kohli’s batting and this happened for the third time in this World Cup. In the 49th over, he was looking to take a single to reach his own hundred and he didn’t put the team first,” the former player said.
But what he said did not go well with many. The likes of ex-Pakistan cricketers Wahab Riaz, Rashid Latif, and India’s Venkatesh Prasad countered his claims and gave their version.
Wahab Riaz said that the situations when Virat and Rohit come to bat are different and Virat Kohli is assigned the role of taking the game to the deep and helping the team in scoring as many runs as possible.
Rashid Latif said that Virat Kohli’s role is different and he plays an anchor role. Virat Kohli makes good partnerships with others if India loses early wickets it is Virat who stands strong in scoring runs he said.
Former Indian player Venkatesh Prasad reacted to the claims and said that yes Virat is selfish in following the dream of a billion people, selfish enough to strive for excellence even after achieving so much. He is selfish to make sure that his team wins the matches, he added.
With a strong counter, he silenced the attack on Virat Kohli who is saying that he played a selfish knock to reach the milestone and that he did not prefer the team.
