It looks like the Karnataka government continues to create a sensation with the proposals. We have seen this with the reservation bill. The government’s proposal to provide reservations for locals in management and non-management roles created a big uproar. The Industry fumed at this and asked what is the need for this.

It is said that the bill was kept on hold due to the criticism. As if that is not enough the Karnataka government came up with another sensation and this time it is the working hours for the IT employees.

Media reports say that the Karnataka Government is looking at imposing a rule of 14 hours working hours for IT employees. It is said that the proposal on working hours talks about taking the working hours to 14 from the existing 10 hours.

As of now, the employees are working for 10 hours a day. But the new bill which is said to be proposed talks about raising the working hours to 14 per day. If this has to be applied then the existing bills should be emended.

Media reports say that the Industry also opposed the proposal and raised some objections. A few trade unions opposed the proposal on working hours and met the concerned Minister. Reports say that the delegation explained to the Minister the impact the new proposal on working hours would have on the industry and the employees.

On the other hand the state government is said to be working on this and a formal announcement might be made soon. This is the second instance where the Karnataka government’s decision became a big snetion with the concerned parties openly opposing. Let us wait and see what happens next.
