Lord Hanuman is one of the most sacred and religiously significant deities in the Hindu religion by a comfortable margin. However, this aspect has no landed in a controversy, and it has something to do with the latest developments in the United States.

A political row has erupted in the United States after a conservative activist sparked controversy by targeting a large Hindu statue in Sugar Land.

The 90-foot statue of Lord Hanuman, known as the Panchaloha Abhaya Hanuman and located at the Shri Ashtalakshmi Temple, has stood in the city since 2024 as one of the tallest Hindu monuments in North America.

Carlos Turcios, a Republican activist associated with the MAGA movement, posted a video of the statue on his social media account and described it as evidence of “Third World aliens” taking over Texas and the United States. In his post, he questioned why such a monument existed in America and urged people to “stop the invasion.”

Turcios’ remarks drew immediate backlash online. Critics accused him of promoting xenophobia and misunderstanding religious freedom in the country. Many pointed out that the statue was built on private property through community donations and represents religious expression rather than political influence.

Supporters of the temple stressed that the monument symbolizes devotion, strength, and peace, and defended the rights of Indian-American communities to celebrate their heritage without facing discrimination.
