BJP ignores Mahila Morcha leaders' claims while giving tickets
Former Mahila Morcha President Akula Vijay wanted to contest from Sanath Nagar and had even opened an election office there
There is disquiet in the women leaders of the BJP over the distribution of the party ticket. Several key Mahila Morcha leaders have been ignored in the ticket distribution. Also, several claimants for party tickets have been denied the tickets. Those denied the tickets are questioning the rationale of ignoring them at a time when the party is talking about women's empowerment.
Former Mahila Morcha President Akula Vijay wanted to contest from Sanath Nagar and had even opened an election office there. But the party gave the ticket to former minister and former Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy. Vijay had contested against chief minister KCR in Gajwel in the 2018 elections.
Current Mahila Morcha chief Geetha Murthy too has been denied a party ticket. In fact, he had applied for five constituencies and the party's leadership has rejected her applications in all the five constituencies. Similarly, Juluri Keerthi Reddy too has not been given the BJP ticket from Jubilee Hills.
Another key leader Padma Veerapaneni, who is member of the national women morcha, too has been ignored. Akula Srivani, a corporator, wanted to contest from either LB Nagar or Maheshwaram. But, her claim has been set aside by the party leaders. Another big rejection is Bandaru Vijayalakshmi, daughter of Haryana governor Bandaru Dattatreya. He wanted to contest from Musheerabad, but Rajya Sabha MP K Laxman's supporter Pusa Raju was given ticket there.
