Today marks the 75th Republic Day of India. On the big occasion, other countries are extending wishes. The nations which share good ties with India released statements wishing India, the biggest democracy in the world. But one wish out of them became the talk of the town.

It is known that the ties between India and Maldives went for a toss recently. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lakshadweep visit promoting it prompted a strong attack from the island. With this, a few Ministers were sacked for their objectionable language.

Amid this Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu surprised one and all by wishing India on Republic Day. The President said that both nations have centuries-old friendship and share mutual respect.

This grabbed everyone’s attention and people wondered what made the Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu change his stand and extend his wishes to India. No one would have predicted that the President would do such a thing.

Well, political experts say that Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu is facing severe criticism for his stand as the opposition parties and leaders are supporting India and they are dubbing him as anti-India. The parties officially extended support to India.

The issue with India cost the Maldives big time. The island is heavily dependent on tourism and India accounts for the major share of income as celebrities prefer going there. After the dispute, celebrities decided to not go there to promote Lakshadweep.

The shootings in Maldives were also banned by the body. On top of this, the opposition parties are supporting India and slamming Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu. He is facing a lot of issues.

Many say that Maldives had no other option but to revive its ties with India as both nations have been friendly nations for a long time.
