In the recent past, some of the biggest companies in the world have been firing their employees at unprecedented rates. Now we have the case of Microsoft, which is something similar as the company is reportedly offering voluntary exits to more than 60,000 workers.

According to the latest development, it is being established that Microsoft has communicated to its global workforce that 60,000 workers and take voluntary exits globally.

This offer will essentially apply to the Microsoft employees who are ranked below the vice presidential positions. Major countries like the United States, Canada, India and the United Kingdom will apply for this voluntary exit program.

This would essentially mean that the people working in these countries will be eligible to take the voluntary exit program and their severance package will be decided based on their existing salary at the company.

This is a clever strategy that is set in motion by Microsoft to a significant portion of its human workforce, effective immediately. This offer will stand with the workers till December as the layoff operations could be starting by the end of the year.

Microsoft had already fired thousands of its employees globally. But it appears that the company is still continuing on this trajectory now, and they would soon be offering voluntary exit to more than 60,000 workers which would be one of the highest layoff numbers in the industry.

This essentially converts to 25% of the global workforce of Microsoft, which would mean that one in every four employees would be offered voluntary exit. These are truly worrying times in the software industry, and the consequences could be pretty strong in nature.
