Generally, when a constituency is represented by the Prime Minister of the country, it is expected to be under the strong grip of the concerned party. But the exact opposite is the case with prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Varanasi constituency as things have gone horribly wrong.

In Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party made notable gains in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Varanasi constituency.

The opposition party ended up retaining the Varanasi Teachers MLC seat and is set to win the Varanasi Graduates seat. The party also secured the Agra seat despite BJP winning five out of 11 seats overall.

These elections including teachers and graduates constituencies serve as a key political indicator ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with Varanasi races closely observed.

When a constituency that is represented by the prime minister himself is unable to retain the BJP wave, then things could be getting really out of hand. This is an unexpected result in terms of the graduate MLC election too.

This outcome would be least expected by the BJP leadership not just locally but also at the central level as the seed that is represented by Modi is expected to be a safe deposit, but that is not even remotely the case now.
