Shehzad is a former national-level wrestling champion from Bangladesh. He allegedly entered India illegally and had been living in Mumbai for several months. To hide his identity, he used the name Vijay Das. After the attack, he moved between different areas like Bandra, Dadar and Thane. He was hiding near a labor camp in Thane when the police found him.
