Mudragada Padmanabham passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness at a private hospital in Hyderabad. He was 73 years old. He is survived by his two sons and one daughter. His death has left many political leaders, film personalities, and supporters saddened.
Mudragada was one of Andhra Pradesh's most well-known Kapu leaders. Born in Kirlampudi village in the then East Godavari district, he entered politics after the death of his father, former MLA Veera Raghava Rao. Over the years, he served as an MLA several times and also worked as a Cabinet Minister during the N.T. Rama Rao government.
His political journey saw him work with different parties, including the Telugu Desam Party, BJP, Congress, and later YSR Congress Party. However, he became most famous for leading the long-running movement demanding Backward Class (BC) status for the Kapu community. He dedicated many years of his life to this cause, often saying that he sacrificed his health, finances, and political career for the movement.
The news of Mudragada Padmanabham's death has led to an outpouring of tributes from leaders across political parties and from members of the film industry.
