Bank customers across India should take note of an important update. Bank employee unions are planning another nationwide strike in September. The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for a three-day strike from September 28 to September 30, 2026.
Due to the proposed strike, regular services at bank branches may be affected during these three days. Customers who have important banking work should plan it in advance to avoid possible delays.
The State Bank of India (SBI) has informed its customers about the proposed strike. The bank has advised customers to complete important banking transactions before the strike dates.
Branch-based services such as cash deposits, cash withdrawals, cheque-related work and other customer services may face delays if bank employees participate in the strike.
However, customers can continue to use several digital banking facilities. SBI customers can use internet banking, YONO, mobile banking and UPI for many regular transactions.
Customers who need cash can use ATMs before or during the strike, depending on availability. They can also use other available cash withdrawal facilities and customer service points.
SBI has asked customers to plan their important banking activities in advance. Using digital banking services can also help customers complete many transactions without visiting a bank branch.
Bank employee unions have been raising several demands. One of their major demands is the introduction of a five-day working week in the banking sector.
The unions are also seeking the filling of vacant posts in banks. Pension-related issues and other employee-related matters are also among the concerns raised by the unions.
Bank employees had earlier observed a nationwide strike on September 11. The unions had indicated that another strike could take place if their demands were not addressed.
The proposed three-day strike is planned for September 28, 29 and 30. The unions have also said that if their concerns are not resolved, they may consider an indefinite strike from October 26.
For customers, it is better to complete urgent branch-related work before the strike dates. At the same time, digital banking services can be used for eligible transactions during the period.
Customers should also check official updates from their respective banks before planning important transactions, as the availability of services may vary.
