New Year’s Eve 2025 showed how much Indians now enjoy celebrating at home. Instead of going out, many people stayed indoors with family and friends and placed orders for food and gifts through Swiggy. The online platform shared live updates throughout the evening and the numbers surprised everyone on social media.

Food orders started rising early in the evening. By 7:30 pm, people had already ordered more than 2 lakh plates of biryani. This once again proved that biryani is the most loved comfort food in India. As the night went on, burgers also became very popular. By 9:30 pm, over 90,000 burgers were delivered across cities. Simple foods like upma, khichdi and salad also found many buyers by showing that people chose both festive and healthy options.

Desserts were not ignored on New Year’s Eve. Thousands of people ordered sweets to complete their celebrations. One of the most ordered desserts was gajar ka halwa, with more than 7,500 orders placed before midnight. These numbers showed that traditional Indian sweets still hold a special place during celebrations.

Apart from food, gifting also stood out this year. Swiggy shared that during 2025, more than 66 crore people ordered food or items for someone else. On New Year’s Eve alone, many users placed orders for friends and family members instead of themselves. This trend highlighted how delivery apps are now used for sharing happiness.

Some high value orders also caught attention. A customer in Bengaluru ordered two iPhones worth ₹1.8 lakh through the platform. In another heart-warming moment, a user in Mumbai received gold worth ₹1.45 lakh as a New Year gift from a loved one. These purchases showed how quick commerce has expanded beyond groceries and food.
