Former CM Selected For Bharat Ratna, What About NTR?
The Indian Government announced that former Chief Minister of Bihar Karpoori Thakur
Bharat Ratna, the prestigious award is the highest civilian award conferred by the Indian Government for personalities who made valuable contributions in their respective fields. For the past few decades, the government has been honoring the people. The other day, a former Chief Minister was selected for the prestigious award.
The Indian Government announced that former Chief Minister of Bihar Karpoori Thakur. He did phenomenal work helping the backward classes. He is a respectable personality in the state given his quality work. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his happiness over picking Karpoori Thakur for the award.
As the former Bihar Chief Minister was selected for the prestigious award, the focus went on to NTR. The demand for Bharat Ratna to Telugu Desam Party founder Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao came to light again as it is not a new demand. For a long time, there has been a demand to give Bharat Ratna to NTR. His contemporary MGR was given the prestigious award. But NTR is yet to get the honor.
Despite TDP maintaining good ties with BJP’s bigwigs in the 90s the award was not given. When NTR’s statue was set up inside the Parliament when the Congress is in power, many felt that the Bharat Ratna would be given to the celebrated personality.
Recently a special coin was issued with the picture of NTR. President Droupadi Murmu released the coin. When this happened the demand got momentum yet again.
The TDP has been an ally of BJP for a long time and both parties joined hands for the 2014 polls as well. But the Bharat Ratna was not conferred to the legendary actor who became a big leader.
At regular intervals, we get to hear about the debate. The political parties also talk about the demand often. No matter what, the demand is not fulfilled yet. As a former CM was conferred with the Bharat Ratna, the focus went on to the demand for the award for NTR. Let us wait and see if the demand will be fulfilled soon or not.
